The city has got a first-of-its-kind single specialty healthcare facility, Asian Institute of Nephrology & Urology, to provide advanced treatment and world-class care to nephro-urology patients.
It was inaugurated on Sunday by renowned gastroenterologist Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, chairman of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, and Dr Mahesh R Desai, president of Endourology Society and past president of the Asian Society of Endourology and Urological Society of India.
AINU is promoted by noted urologists Dr C Mallikarjuna and Dr K Purna Chandra Reddy, and the promoters of Asian Institute of Gastroenterology.
“This healthcare facility is very much unlike a corporate hospital. Apart from the most advanced state-of-the-art treatment facility, the centre also has a wing for training and research,” explained Dr Nageshwar Reddy.
According to Dr C Mallikarjuna, managing director of the facility, the need of the hour is advancement in research and training to young medical practitioners who are the primary contact with patients, especially in rural areas.
Speaking at a press conference after the hospital’s inauguration, he said, “This part could be called the diabetic capital of India. The prevalence of stone disease, diabetic kidney diseases is huge and we do not know reasons for it. This is why we need do develop research.”
He said that his was the first and only such single specialty centre available on such a magnitude and it would take care of training and research requirements.
With an investment of about Rs 30 cr for the 100-bedded tertiary care centre, located in Errum Manzil Colony, near Hotel Taj Deccan, the institute will provide advanced endo-urology, laparoscopic and laser surgical technologies in the speciality of urology. In nephrology, the facility will provide acute kidney care, advanced haemodialysis and renal transplantation.
It boasts of three advanced operation theatres, surgical critical care and acute kidney care units and a fully-equipped advanced dialysis centre. An extensive range of minimally invasive surgical and other treatment procedures provide complete patient-friendly systems and ensure minimal financial burden to patients by shortened hospital stay and condensed recovery time.
“AINU aims at setting standards in nephro-uro care. The Mallik Raju Purna Educational Foundation has been established to support research, training and sharing of knowledge on prevention and treatment of kidney diseases,” said Dr Mallikarjuna.
