Police seize 14 kg gold, Rs 17 lakh in city

The city police on Monday recovered Rs 17 lakh cash and 14 kg gold ornaments during the checks at various places. While the police seized 13 kg gold from three persons at Malakpet, the Begum Bazar police seized one kg gold ornaments and Abids police detained a person who was transporting one kg gold ornaments without valid documents.

Malakpet inspector N Satyanarayana said during the checks at Malakpet, the police noticed three persons who were in possession of 13 kg gold ornaments. The trio were carrying the gold in two bags.

“We noticed three persons carrying two bags and found 13 kg gold ornaments in it. One of the persons Jitendra Kumar told that they have a jewellery shop in Secunderabad and they were transporting the gold to a shop. However, the trio had no valid documents regarding the gold. We informed the income tax department officials and handed over the gold,’’ said the inspector.

In another incident, the Begum Bazar police detained a person who was moving on a bike and seized `17 lakh cash. Police seized the cash and handed over to the officials. The Abids police also seized one Kg gold ornaments from a person.
