MIM wins Borabanda GHMC byelection

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) candidate V. Bhanumathi won the byelection to the 108th ward of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at Borabanda here Tuesday.

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) candidate V. Bhanumathi won the byelection to the 108th ward of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at Borabanda here Tuesday.

However, as per the High Court’s directions, the result was not officially declared by the GHMC.

The corporation will submit the result to the court in a sealed cover for official announcement.

Bhanumathi drubbed her nearest rival Hajira Sultana (Indian National Congress) by a margin of 1,484 votes. Bhanumathi secured nearly 5,241 votes while Hajira Sultana got 3,957 votes.

The Telugu Desam  Party candidate A Kavitha stood third with 2,655 votes. Kavitha S of the BJP received 681 votes and T. Vani Yashodara of the Lok Satta Party got 189 votes.

Of the total 27,792 voters in the ward, about 12,799 cast their votes in the poll held last Sunday.

The counting of votes took place on Tuesday at the Sri Guru Gobind Singhji Stadium, Dharam Karam Road in Ameerpet amidst tight police bandobust.

As many as nine candidates were in the election fray.
