A 19-year-old housewife was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her house in Tukaramgate police station limits.

Even though the incident took place on Sunday night, it came to light  on Monday when the victim’s family members lodged a complaint.

According to police, Durga, a resident of Garoda apartments at Teachers Colony, got married to Naresh (25) last year.

Durga’s family members alleged that she was doused with kerosene and set ablaze by her in-laws who have been demanding additional dowry.

However, Naresh told Durga’s parents that she committed suicide by setting herself ablaze.

Upon information, Durga’s family members rushed to her house and found few kerosene bottles on the spot. They alerted the police.

Meanwhile, Durga’s family members lodged a complaint alleging that Durga was harassed for additional dowry by her husband and in-laws and killed. Police registered a dowry death case and arrested Naresh.
