With Easter around the corner, you’ve probably come across bakeries lined up with an array of baked delicacies. Well, for this weekend, you can break out your baking tin and get mixing as we give you a simple apple crumb pie recipe to experiment with. With a cooking time of about 50 minutes, you’ll have some delicious savoury to tuck into.

Ingredients:

l 9-inch pastry shell, unbaked, chilled

l 1 cup sifted flour

l 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed

l 1/8 teaspoon salt

l 1/2 cup soft butter

l 6 cups peeled, sliced cooking apples

l 1/2 cup granulated sugar

l 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

l vanilla ice cream

Method:

l Mix the flour, brown sugar, salt, and butter and blend until it becomes in crumbly in texture

l Set aside the mixture in a cake tin and chill

l Gently coat the apples slices with a mixture of granulated sugar and cinnamon

l Pack apple mixture into chilled crust

l Sprinkle crumb topping over apples

l Bake in 375° oven until apples are tender (about 50 minutes)

l Serve the apple pie with vanilla ice cream
