Chief secretary Minnie Mathew has dashed off a demi-official letter to all the district collectors requesting them to take up energy conservation mission in a big way.
The state is passing through a phase of severe power shortage due to decrease in the availability of fuel, mainly gas. The situation has worsened due to reduction in hydro-electricity (hydel) generation on account of reduced inflow into major reservoirs.
“The time has come to create awareness about the efficient use of energy through adoption of energy conservation measures. I would urge you to launch a drive to spread awareness about efficient use of energy as well as the need to conserve energy,” the chief secretary requested the collectors in her letter on Tuesday.
Collectors are heads of District Level Energy Conservation Committees of Energy Conservation Mission.
