Move for online list of bus travellers

The State Road Transport Authority is planning to introduce measures such as updating lists of passengers online so that it would be easy to access information about them in case of accidents.

“As most of the seats are booked online, updating the list will be easy” said an RTA official and hinted at some more measures like conducting training classes for drivers of government and private Volvo buses, and education of passengers on the safety measures to be followed in case of emergencies.

Meanwhile, transport department officials have continued their crackdown on violations and registered 54 cases against private bus operators and seized 50 buses in the state on Friday. Ever since the Volvo bus fire accident occurred in Mahbubnagar district a few days ago, department officials have seized around 435 buses in the state for violations which include plying of contract carriage buses as stage carriage buses and non-maintenance of passenger lists.

Earlier, an RTA official said that buses of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC)  were also subject to inspection. Four days ago, two RTC buses in Nalgonda district were found to be violating rules like lack of a first-aid box and hammers to break glass windows for emergency exit. The enforcement drive will continue for some more days.
