The Mumbai police, who is probing the sexual assault and murder of 23-year-old Esther Anuhya, a techie from Machlipatnam, have allegedly picked up a key suspect from the city. The railway police has stumbled upon a CCTV footage installed in Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) that showed the victim with a man after alighting the train at Kurla Railway Terminus from where she went missing, police said.
According to sources, the Mumbai Railway Police team arrived in the city on Friday morning and allegedly picked up the suspect and shifted him to Mumbai for questioning. ``Ever since we registered a woman missing case in Vijayawada railway station, we strongly suspected a person who is known to have had conversed with the victim over mobile phone for 39 hours in December last. We believe, questioning him would get us some further leads in this case,’’ said a senior railway police officer.
As many as ten teams comprising Railway, Crime Branch and Law and Order wing of the Mumbai Police are investigating the case after the victim’s father SJS Prasad made serious allegations over inaction of Mumbai police in nabbing the guilty.
The Railway Police, however, has denied the role of the suspect in the kidnap, sexual assault and murder of the victim. They believe that after the suspect and the victim came out from the LTT, some persons might have trapped them and committed the offence. The suspect was picked up by Railway Police to know the facts about what happened after the victim came out from LTT, they said.
In the meantime, the victim’s father Prasad led by the Christian Joint Action Committee met chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday and demanded a CBI probe into Anuhya’s case. Later, they took out a rally from Secunderabad to Indira Park .
