The Paramedical Employees’ Union of Nims has come out in support of institute’s director Dr L Narendranath.
According to union members, certain vested interests, including corrupt contractors and officials affected due to the honesty of the director, have been trying to destabilise the administration.
“Some vested interests in the hospital want a director of their choice for personal benefit. Overall quality and service of the hospital had come down because of them,” Bharat Bhushan, treasurer of the union, has said.
Narendranath, a Padma Shri recipient, over the last 100 days of his tenure, has been able to bring in a series of reforms to bring transparency and accountability, they said.
“Since he has been trying to improve the institution, it is our responsibility to support him, and protect the institution and the welfare of its employees,” added Srinivasulu, general secretary.
“Nims is an autonomous institution with a separate set of rules. We demand that the director be allowed to continue till the end of his tenure of three years,” he said.
A few days ago, a writ petition was filed in the High Court questioning the government’s decision to appoint Dr L Narendranath as director of Nims.
