Ahead of Parliament session to pass the vote-on-account budget, BJP president Rajnath Singh has said his party supports Telangana state, but at the same time, it wants the concerns of Seemandhra addressed.
Alleging that Congress was using the Telangana issue to derive political mileage, the saffron party boss on Saturday made it clear that BJP would accord statehood to the region after coming to power in the 2014 polls if the Congress failed to fulfil its promise.
While delivering the inaugural address at party’s two-day national council meet in Delhi, Singh said only the BJP had a constructive action plan for the development of all the three regions of Andhra Pradesh.
According to sources, the party’s national council did not discuss the Telangana issue as the meeting was intended for chalking out a poll strategy etc.
Meanwhile, as the Jan 23 deadline set by the President to debate the T bill is nearing, Seemandhra leaders of the BJP have decided to stage a sit-in at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Jan 20 to highlight the concerns of Seemandhra, party leader Kambhampati Hari Babu.
Talking to Express over phone from Delhi on Saturday, Hari Babu exuded confidence that his party central leadership would not blindly support the T-bill by ignoring the concerns of Seemandhra.
He was hopeful that the bill might not be through the two Houses of Parliament even it is introduced in the ensuing session.
However, his Telangana colleagues such as BJP State President G Kishan Reddy and Nagam Janardhan Reddy believe that the party will back the bill in the upcoming session of Parliament as it has already thrown its weight behind Telangana formation.
