Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune-based deemed university under the ministry of defence, entered into a memorandum of understanding with Deakin University of Australia here on Tuesday.
A range of exciting new collaborative research projects building on the strengths of both institutions will be explored under the MoU which was signed by Deakin vice-chancellor Jane den Hollander and her DIAT counterpart Prahlada.
Prahlada said India and Australia, two large Commonwealth countries, shared a lot of interests and complementary strengths. “Just like Deakin University has a national presence in India, DIAT being the only defence university in India, has a national presence interacting with all the entities of ministry of defence,” he said.
“Deakin was the first university in the world to set up an office in India, and today’s announcement is a clear sign that our engagement in education and industry is stronger than ever,” Hollander said.
The Deakin-DIAT partnership is part of the Deakin India Research Initiative (DIRI) which aims to develop research models that bridge the gap between academia and industry.
