Foley Artiste From Belgium Joins Baahubali Team

HYDERABAD: Baahubali is the most awaited watch of this year. This, for a number of reasons – stars, massive sets and world-class technicians. The film is making news for doing things that have never been done before in Tollywood. And the latest is that it has roped in internationally renowned Foley artiste Philipe Van Leer from Belgium.  The artiste will work with the crew for two weeks starting from today. The shoot will take place at the famous Dame Blanche complex in Belgium. The facility and the Foley artiste are highly regarded in Europe and around the world.

For people who are new to the concept of foley, it is the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to film, video, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality that range from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass. It is integrated in such a way that it is impossible to notice.

The recording will go on till November 14. Director SS Rajamouli and his team have chosen the Foley artiste along with sound designer PM Sateesh to enhance the audio visual experience of Baahubali for the viewers.

The team is currently shooting at Ramoji Film City.

Prabhas will be seen as the hero in this big budget period drama while Rana Daggubati will be seen in a negative role. Anushka and Tamanna are going to be seen as the female leads in this big budget Arka Mediaworks production.

How it works

Foley recording will give filmmakers the right ambient sounds and background noises that will go a long way in increasing the authentic feel of a scene. Water sloshing, swords jangling together, footsteps on hard marble, ripple of a cloth in the wind etc. are some of the sounds that Foley aristes try to recreate effectively.

Foley is often confused with Sound FX which deals with things like engines, explosions, blasts and natural sounds like dogs and birds. Foley deals with things like footsteps that sound different when they are repeated like clothes moving, handling of objects etc.  The term Foley artist comes from Jack Foley who is best known for helping Universal pictures make the change from silent movies to “talkies”.
