HYDERABAD: Mahaprasthanam, a modern crematorium/graveyard that aims to give departed soul a respectful and dignified cremation with all rituals and traditions has come up at Whisper Valley in Jubilee Hills.
At a time when most of the graveyards and crematoria are lacking basic facilities and amenities and cleanliness, Mahaprasthanam crematorium turns out to be welcome change.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Phoenix Foundation turned around an old graveyard into a fully modernised one with bathrooms, lockers, electric pier, storage rooms, rest rooms, wash rooms, flower arrangement facilities, car parking etc.
The graveyard developed in an area of 3.7 acres has been rechristened Mahaprasthanam at a cost of Rs 3 crore at Jubilee Hills, would soon be thrown open to use. This is the first graveyard to have been modernised on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
It provides a wide range of amenities, including a wi-fi enabled television network which will broadcast the entire event to all corners of the world.
GHMC special officer Somesh Kumar, who inspected the place on Saturday, this was the first time that the GHMC has taken up modernisation of graveyard with all basic amenties to perform the last rites in a pollution-free atmosphere. A nominal fee will be collected to perform the last rites.
The GHMC is also planning to come up with 30 more graveyards for which proposals are under process. The crematorium which was in a neglected condition now wears a modern look with best amenities. The purpose of the crematorium is to bring a qualitatively maintained one to the people within the city limits with latest technology enabled operations.
Phoenix Foundation is engaged in socially relevant programs. The crematorium is the latest addition to its portfolio of social work and the group is committed to the upkeep of the facility.
There are attached waiting rooms and a canteen is also being provided.
The graveyard is provided with pleasant landscaped gardens with spacious walking area. Ample car parking facility for around 50 cars is provided.
The place is provided with 24X7 security by employing adequate security guards with CCTV cameras. A full fledged store for all funeral requirements inside the premises. wi-fi enabled viewing of the entire funeral procession from any part of the world. A mortuary van facility is being provided so that it is easier to carry the body to the crematorium.
