Cheated in Love, Student Jumps Off Sagar Bridge

HYDERABAD:A B.Tech student, who was duped by a small-time politician, jumped off the Nagarjuna Sagar bridge in Guntur district early Wednesday. Unconfirmed reports suggested she had left behind a suicide note, accusing the police of failing to slap a case against the neta under the Nirbhaya Act.

Anusha Reddy, the student who was a resident of Dilsukhnagar, was being taken to a dargah in Nellore by her family members when she gave them the slip and ended her life, police said. “Anusha (23) had been in depression for some time. Her father, Mamidi Syam Sunder Reddy, YSRC Mahbubnagar district president, and other family members were taking her to a dargah. Around 3.30 a.m, as their vehicle reached the Sagar bridge, Anusha asked her father to stop to relieve herself. She walked away and didn’t return. Her relatives searched for her in vain and finally, sought police help,” Koti Reddy, Nagarjuna Sagar right bank sub-inspector, said. A police team found her body floating in the water around 6 a.m.

According to police, a local TRS leader and Prasannanjaneya Swamy temple chairman, G Rajesh, was arrested recently following a complaint from Anusha that he had kidnapped and raped her. Rajesh, who was married twice, had introduced himself to her when she visited the temple and over a period of time, trapped her under the pretext of love and marriage. He later took her to Delhi, Goa and Kerala. Anusha found his behaviour suspicious and returned to the city from Kerala. Immediately, she had lodged a complaint with the Chaitanyapuri Police, accusing him of kidnapping and raping her.

When contacted, LB Nagar zone DCP Tafseer Iqbal told Express that they had no information about a suicide note left behind by Anusha. ‘’Rajesh has a criminal past and the matter is under investigation,’’ he said. Anusha’s body was shifted to Hyderabad.
