HYDERABAD: In the first conviction under the Nirbhaya Act in the city, a local court on Wednesday sentenced Md Salman to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of ` 1,000 on him for gang-raping a minor along with three juveniles.

This is the first case of Nirbhaya Act in which the accused was convicted. The trial against the remaining three juveniles is in process in the Juvenile Justice Board. According to police, a 14-year-old girl was kidnapped and was gang-raped by four accused in December 2013.

Out of the four accused, three were juveniles. Based on the complaint of the girl’s mother, a case was registered in Bhavaninagar police limits.  During the trial, the Bhavaninnagar police produced 21 witnesses along with the collected material/ medical evidences collected from FSL and from the scene of offence. Police has also conducted test identification parade and recorded the  statement of the minor in the court.

Based on the evidence produced by the police in the case, the court convicted Md Salman and sentenced him to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment and also slapped a fine of `1,000.

‘’This was the first conviction under Nirbhaya Act. The trial against the remaining three juveniles is in process in the Juvenile Justice Board,’’ DCP, South Zone, V Satyanarayana, said.
