HYDERABAD: Jasveen Jairath is an independent consultant and researcher on the politics of water practice and policy who is also actively involved in water issues and spearheaded the Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) campaign.

An academician who likes to call herself a concerned activist has written and edited a book on water management in South Asia and published several papers as well. “We grew up in a world of optimism where we looked forward to a better world. But now as I am close to the end of my life I feel low, I feel we have descended. The prevalent social intensity is saddening and that no one, particularly the youth’s apathy is disheartening,” she says. Being a voracious reader, Jasveen lists a few of her favourite books that help her view the world in a better light and those that she recommends to a lot of people.
