Govt dialysis machines to use disposable material soon

HYDERABAD: As reuse of dialysers remains among the most controversial aspects of haemodialysis, which leads to infections among renal failure patients, the state government has decided to do away with the practice of using single dialyser for several patients.

It has now decided to set up latest dialysis machines, which will have disposable material, in government hospitals to prevent the spread of viral infections among kidney failure patients in the coming days.

The government decided to set up 14 dialysis units with disposable material (for single use) in addition to recently sanctioned 20 units at district hospitals, area hospitals and community health centres across the state in PPP model.

The 14 disposable dialysis units will be set up at government hospitals at Sircilla, Godavarikhani, Jangoan, Narsampet, Kothagudem, Sathupalli, Miryalguda, Huzurnagar, Vikarabad, Maheshwaram, Malakpet, Zaheerabad, Banswada and Bhodan.

According to a GO issued here on Thursday, in these units new dialysis disposables (dialyser, AV blood tubing and transducer protector) will be used for each session in order to prevent spread of infections. The government set up a technical panel headed by the chief executive officer of Aarogyasri Health Care Trust to invite tenders and finalise the bidders.“The commissioner of Telangana Viadya Vidhana Parishad has directed to call for tenders under PPP model. After selection of service provider to each hospital, the commissioner and the hospital development societies will execute a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with service providers to be valid for a period of three years,” the order said.
