SIT to probe Nayeem’s alleged links with retired DGP

Police asked to retrieve CCTV footage from the residence of ex-police chief as the former naxalite was spotted on the premises 5 times

HYDERABAD: The state police are investigating the alleged links between the retired DGP and slain gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem, after the former Naxalite was spotted at a retired DGP’s residence around five times.

Nayeem is learnt to have visited the residence of the then state police chief  to meet his family members who were doing real estate business. SIT officials have directed the city police to retrieve the CCTV footage from near the former police official’s house, if feasible.

Hours after police officials sent the AK-47 assault rifle and pistols seized from Nayeem’s residence to forensic laboratory for examination, police arrested Tech Madhu alias Thota Kumaraswamy, a close associate of Nayeem, and produced him in the court at Aler in Nalgonda district. Tech Madhu was allegedly involved in supplying weapons to Nayeem. Meanwhile, DGP Anurag Sharma has appointed Kukatpally ACP N Bhujanga Rao as Investigation Officer (IO) of gangster Nayeemuddin’s encounter case.  Following the Apex court guidelines, a special officer has been appointed to investigate encounter cases.
