Seven dead after wall collapses due to heavy rain in Hyderabad

Heavy rain that has been lashing since morning crippled normal life in the city.

HYDERABAD: A little over three-hours of rains and Hyderabad came to a standstill on Wednesday morning. As it started to rain from around 7 A.M., people going to offices, children going to schools faced inconvenience as roads were flooded with water. This was the situation in many parts of the city. Power cuts too were reported in some parts of the city.

Seven reportedly dead:

Tragedy stuck at two families after the roof of a house collapsed in Bholakpur, under Hyderabad, limits. A woman and two children died in the incident. In another incident, four of members of a family reportedly died after an old wall collapsed on a shack in Ramanthapur.

The deceased are identified as Chinnamma (house wife), her husband Balaswamy, daughter Parvathi and
son Shekar.

In Bholakpur, a mother and her daughters received injuries after the wall collapsed. The victims were shifted to nearby hospital. The deceased have been identified as Bilkqis,  25, house wife, her daughters Maria, 5,  and Zeba, 2.

In a few areas, water level increased and vehicles floated in it.

Those who ventured out of their homes in knee-deep water, drove their vehicles hoping the engines will not breakdown.

While people left for home from office early, it was not of any help as heavy traffic jams were reported across the city.

Hyderabad Traffic Police, in its Facebook account updated information on heavy traffic jams at Koti, Himayatnagar, Tadbun, Siddiamber Bazaar, Khairatabad, way leading to Punjagutta cross roads and other places.
