Post demonetisation, the mobile wallet app’s turnover in transactions increases by 300 pc

HYDERABAD: Indicating that even small shops and retail outlets are moving towards cashless transactions, as many as 20,000 retail outlets including salons, beauty parlous and kirana shops in Hyderabad are now taking the ‘Paytm-enabled’ route.

After demonetisation, the demand for PayTm app in the city has increased manifolds. “We have provided PayTm system to 20,000 retailers in the last two months. Of this, 90 per cent are issued within 20 days,” Paytm assistant general manager G Sandeep told Express. He, along with his staff, organised a demo camp on Saturday for Secretariat employees on how to use PayTm.

“Our turnover in transaction has increased by 300 per cent in the city after demonetisation. We had `2 lakh worth transactions before demonetisation and it has reached now to around `2 crore,” Sandeep said.
“As of now we have 200 sales representatives. As we have been receiving umpteen calls everyday for the app post demonetisation, we have decided to double the sales representatives,” he said.
Speaking to Express, SBI, Koti branch assistant general manager A Sridhar said they had supplied 3,000 Point of Sale (PoS) machines after demonetisation. “The PoS are supplied to small vendors, RTA office stamps and registration department, TSRTC and others,” he said.

He informed that around 500 PoS machines were supplied for the toll gates across the nation.

Launching the Digital Financial Literacy Camp for cashless payments for Secretariat employees, Chief Secretary K Pradeep Chandra said he earlier purchased bread and eggs from a small kirana shop. After demonetisation, he goes to a nearby supermarket for the same.

The kirana shop owner has now decided to instal PoS, the Chief Secretary said. If RBI provides notes, we would send it to districts and see that Aasara pensions are paid in cash, he added.
