No Proper Auditing Practice in GHMC

HYDERABAD: I would like to bring to the notice of all Hyderabadis and aspiring corporators about lack of auditing practice in GHMC. Though thousands of crores money is collected from people in the form of taxes, GHMC does not follow a proper accounting system, to keep track of how the money is spent.

As a result money collected from people is being misappropriated by the GHMC. To conceal it, GHMC is not taking up auditing. How can a government body like GHMC which is entrusted with the responsibility of providing services for more than 80 lakh people and oversee spending of thousands of crores, does not have a proper accounting and audit?

Due to lack of audit, the hard earned money of people, is falling prey to corruption. From whose money did GHMC gave laptops to corporators?

How many of those corporators returned the laptops after the end of their term? From whose money are trips of corporators and officials funded?

The major share of taxes collected from the five zones in GHMC, is spent on the central zone, which consists of Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills areas, where top politicians and officials reside.

What right does GHMC has to spend the money collected from other zones only on central zone? I want to underline here that most of the defaulters of property taxes are in central zone. The amount collected from each zone should be spent in that area itself.

Unless proper accounting and auditing practices are followed, corruption and mismanagement of funds cannot be stopped. All political parties and the government should focus on the issue. GHMC should also publish the details of property tax collections, payers, defaulters and audit report in the website to ensure transparency.
