HYDERABAD: The city received unexpected heavy showers on Saturday bringing vehicular traffic in the city to a standstill.

Traffic along many parts of the city was affected due to minor water-logging. Pothole-ridden roads too contributed to the traffic congestion across the city including Panjagutta, Begumpet and Khairathabad which witnessed major traffic snarls, with traffic jams stretching to over a kilometre. “The rains have made the potholes brim again and it is difficult to spot them,” said R Ravi.

“I have been stuck in the traffic for over an hour today. I am coming from Hi-Tech city,” said Mohammad Imthiaz, who works with an IT company. “The Jubilee Hills roads are in bad shape, and there is a huge traffic jam there,” he added, while moving towards Secunderabad.

Met department officials forecast that the city will receive moderate to heavy rainfall for the next 48 hours. “This will not be developing into anything major but it will rain for two more days. The city has received a top of 30 mm rainfall,” said YK Reddy, scientist, Indian Meteorological department, Hyderabad.

A twitter user, Bharath Bhushan tweeted the video of an ambulance stuck in traffic. The twiterrati said the ambulance has been stuck in traffic for over an hour. Meanwhile, officials at the 108 service said they had a smooth flow of service.
