HYDERABAD: Seeing the massive turnouts over the weekend at the majestic Golconda Fort to witness spell-binding staging of Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation’s internationally-feted play  ‘Quli : Dilon ka Shahzaada’ at the historic Golconda Fort, Dy. Chief Minister of Telangana, Mohammed Mahmood Ali said that “the city’s Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb is the basis of formation of Telangana state”. On the 450th anniversary of the founder of the city Quli Qutub Shah, he said the four minarets of Charminar represent the four religions of the state. The play produced by Begum Razia Baig, directed by Padmasri Mohammad Ali Baig just returned from a week-long run at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world’s largest theatre festival where it was termed as “visual poetry” and “enchanting piece of international theatre”.

Staged over 40 shows across seven countries and in 15 international festivals, the celebrated theatre spectacle termed ‘a masterpiece’ in Europe and USA, saw a massive turn out at the sprawling Nagina Bagh in the fort Saturday and Sunday night.

The Deputy Chief Minister hailed Mohammad Ali Baig as ‘Kohinoor’ mentioned that this show would be made a regular, monthly feature at the Golconda Fort in association with Archaeological Survey of India and Telangana Tourism. Archaeological Survey of India’s regional chief N. Taher said that along with Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation ASI is bringing the intangible value of the Hyderabad’s heritage and history to people and that regular shows of this play shall further enhance the value of the monument.
Mohammad Ali Baig in the title role, Noor Baig as Bhagmati were supported by city’s veteran actors Vijay Prasad, Rashmi Seth, dancer Kavita Golecha and Qawwals Ustad Qadeer Ayyazi, Sabir Ahmed Khan, Rehan Mallik and Akhter Nawaz. Qawwali and shadow dance was a part of the play.
