‘Lack of coordination reason behind bad city roads’

HYDERABAD: In connection with the deplorable condition of roads in Hyderabad causing untold hardships to citizens since last month, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan held a high level review meeting with senior officials of various line departments for taking up road restoration works in GHMC limits.

The line departments which participated in the meeting include National Highways (NH), Industrial Area Local Authorities (IALA), Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, Roads and Buildings (R&B), Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB). “Lack of coordination among line departments in providing information on roads is hampering the road restoration works,” he said.  
To improve coordination among the departments without creating any problems the meeting was conducted to take up the road restoration works on war footing basis.

Mayor informed the officials that citizens are upset over the pathetic condition of roads battered due to heavy rains.
He directed the line departments to restore the damaged roads on war footing basis.
About 15 kilometres of DBM roads belongs to AILA. AILA Chief Engineer Laxmikanth Reddy informed that road restoration works would  be taken up on war footing basis. The roads from financial city to Nanakramguda (5 km) will be completed in a week’s time, he said.
Of the 88 km of roads belonging to National Highways in GHMC limits, 20 km of roads restoration works have been taken up costing `11 crore, said NH superintendent engineer C Vasantha said.

Proposal for restoration works from LB Nagar to Miyapur proposals costing `44 crore has been sent to NH department, Delhi for sanctioning funds, she added.
The restoration works pertaining to HMR from Road No.36 covering 4 km stretch is underway and would be completed in a week’s time, HMRL chief engineer, Ziauddin said and for remaining works, HMR will take them up on priority.
With regard to R&B, HMDA and GHMC all road restoration works will be taken up on priority, Mayor said.
