HYDERABAD: The Yacht Club of Hyderabad in collaboration with the Rashtriya Life Saving Society (RLSS) will launch a lifesaving and lifeguard training centre at Hussain Sagar.

“After experiencing the recent floods in the city and the fact that basic safety is not part of  the Indian psyche, we thought it is important to set up a comprehensive training centre at Hyderabad to improve both off shore and on shore safety,” said Suheim Sheikh of the Yacht Club.
“The RLSS has trained about 200,000 people in trauma management, first aid, lifesaving and life guarding so far. We are happy to open a centre at the Yacht Club of Hyderabad to serve the entire state of Telangana. Let us make India drowning free,” said Admiral Purushottam Sharma the founder of RLSS.

About 35 young sailors from The Yacht Club of Hyderabad were trained in Lifesaving skills earlier this month. The next course is scheduled for November 5, 2016. The Society, through its “Swim N Survive” programme empowers children with skills to survive an accidental fall in deep water. It is a swimming and water safety initiative based on two levels - Himmat and Josh, which comprises exercises and activities to build a child’s confidence and expertise in swimming.
