HYDERABAD: Considering the terror threat to the city and the huge traffic near Metro Rails and railway stations, the state police department is planning a massive security cover with advanced equipment for Metro trains and its properties.

It has proposed that the Metro corridor have 17 police stations and 48 police outposts.
At a high-level meeting on Tuesday, senior police officials looked into the security arrangements for the Metro corridor.

According to officials, police officers posted at Metro police stations and outposts would be given state-of-the-art equipment and gadgets to ensure safety and security of passengers and infrastructure.
Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma, who reviewed the security arrangements on Tuesday by the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project, with senior police officers and officers from Hyderabad Metro Rail, decided to deploy trained manpower for security at the project sites.

It has been proposed to have five ‘A’ category police stations and 12 ‘B’ category police stations and 48 outposts along the corridor.

The Metro stations with higher passenger density would be referred to as ‘A’ category police stations and the stations with lesser density would be referred to as ‘B’ category police stations. The ‘A’ category police stations would be headed by an inspector rank officer and the ‘B’ category police stations would be headed by a sub-inspector rank officer.

It is learnt that a total of 5,000 police personnel would be deployed for security, including 48 outposts.
The police would be given body cameras, eye cameras, manual metal detectors, dedicated vehicles, along with the other safety gadgets.

A detailed presentation on the project was given by the Additional DG (Railways & Road Safety) T Krishna Prasad on the security implications of the project. Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited MD NVS Reddy, Hyderabad city police commissioner M Mahender Reddy, Additional DG (Law & Order) Anjani Kumar, Additional DG (Organization) M Gopikrishna, Cyberabad commissioner Sandeep Shandilya and others were present during the meeting.
