Sexually harassed by colleague, Woman principal of Hyderabad school ends life

HYDERABAD: Repeatedly sexually harassed by her colleague, the principal of a school in Hyderabad committed suicide by hanging herself in her home. The incident shows how women are vulnerable despite being in top positions.

The victim, identified as A Srilatha (35), was working as principal of Trident High School situated at MCH Colony of Narsingi, Hyderabad. On Monday night, when all her family members went to sleep, Srilatha entered the bathroom and hanged herself to the ventilator using a long piece of cloth, the police said.

Srilatha’s younger brother Santhosh found her hanging from the bathroom and rushed her to Care Hospital in Hi-tech city area, but she was declared brought dead.

Her family members alleged that one Sridhar, who works as co-principal (administration) of the school, had been harassing Srilatha and had also tried to sexually exploit her. The family lodged a complaint blaming Sridhar for her death.

Sridhar has been arrested by the police, and a case under section 306 of IPC has been booked. Narsingi police have begun a probe.

The victim is survived by her husband and 10-year-old son.
