In Nature's lap at Banjara Hills

The art exhibition at Gallery Space showcases exquisite art-works by various artists on Nature

HYDERABAD: Abigail H Butkus’s poem ‘Grace Like No Other’ sums up the art exhibition being held at Gallery Space, Banjara Hills, by almost the same title. Much like the nature’s flawlessly beautiful portraiture in the poem, the exhibition is replete with many such paintings. the exhibition is a melange of works by various artists and will be ongoing till September 15.

The art-works not just focus on flora and fauna, but also depict the love of humans for the same. For example the artwork of Subrata Das is about a young calf and a human figure dressed like a milkman. The affection between the animal and the man traverses to the beholder. The use of colours, dots and lines complement the canvas. The shades have been kept vibrant yet soft. The use of scarlet brings the artwork alive. The magic of colour continues in other canvases as well. The ‘Owl’ done by famous artist Shuvaprasanna is dark in colour and painted with such somberness that even the bird’s eyes appear to be deep wells faintly lit from within.  The lines in this etching are exquisite and sharp enough to tell about the dexterity of the artist.

In one of the paintings by Fawad Tamkanat done in mixed media, you get to see a two women figures looking outside the frame. One woman in front is draped in a floral chadar while a garden blooms behind her. A rooster sits on a wrought-iron gate that stands in front of a waning cityscape. The other woman in her floral pants looks like she’s about to run. In one corner the sickle of the moon hangs as if embroidered by the artist himself. The overall impression of the artwork is that of nostalgia with a hope that peeps in the times ahead yet waits patiently till a green light is shown. Other artworks, too, are in tandem with the the theme. It’s interesting to see such exhibitions coming ahead when the cityscapes, too, are turning into imbroglios of nothingness.
