Hyderabad Cops come to the rescue of two-year-old locked in car

HYDERABAD: A two-year-old girl who got stuck inside a car for 20-odd minutes when she accidentally pressed the interlock of the remote she was playing with, was rescued by the police. This incident happened while her parents went out leaving the girl alone in the car to have tea at a restaurant in Shamshabad on Wednesday.

A traffic police patrol team rescued the child by break opening the rear window of the car. ‘’At around 11.30 am, as I and another constable V Venkatesham were patrolling in Shamshabad, we saw the  parents trying to tell a 2-year-old girl how to unlock the car in which she was stuck.

She started crying and could not understand what to do. She had accidentally pressed the locking button while playing with it in the rear seat of the car as the parents had gone out for tea.

Finally, as all ways to make her press the unlock button failed, we had to break open the rear window to rescue the child.

She was stuck there for about 20 minutes,” said homeguard Y Gautam, who rescued the girl.

Meanwhile, car accessory sellers in Ramkoti say it is always better to buy company interlocks by paying an additional amount of `5,000 than the locks that are available in the accessory shops, which cost around `3,000.

“The keys made by the carmakers have chips in them and are more secure than those made by smaller firms. Parents should always keep two keys with them and never leave children alone in the car,” said Md Idris, a car accessory seller in Ramkoti.

“The central locking system of the carmakers do not get activated till around 15 minutes but that of the smaller makers get activated instantly.”

“This is a boon in terms of safety but a bane if a child is forgotten inside,” said M A Khan, another car accessory seller.
