HYDERABAD: Cyberabad police on Wednesday suspended Petbasheerabad sub-inspector of police Ch Koteswar Rao and three constables Ravi Kumar, Balakrishna and Satish Kumar following allegations of resorting to third degree torture on a businessman.

The suspension orders were issued hours after Cyberabad police commissioner Sandeep Shandilya went on leave and Rachakonda CP Mahesh M Bhagawat was made the in-charge.

There were reports that Cyberabad police were under severe pressure from some politicians not to act against the SI but the police went ahead with suspension of the four policemen.

When contacted Sandeep Shandliya for going on seven-day leave, he told Express that he took leave for personal reasons.

Replying to a query about any political pressure on the case, Sandeep Shandilya denied it stating no one was brought pressure to dilute the case.

The Cyberabad police officers who are associated with the investigation against the SI said the police officer is absconding. Police officials said that as SI is still absconding, we did not question him.
