Doctor couple go ‘camp’ing

HYDERABAD: When Dr Poornima Kumar is not tending to the patients at her clinic in New Delhi, she is busy planning her trip to Nalgonda - not to enjoy a holiday in her hometown with her son or daughter, but to conduct free health camps specifically aimed at the indigeneous people of the district.
Dr Poornima and her husband Dr Anand, an Ayurvedic specialist who also practices in Delhi and is also a documentary and film maker who loves to make movies on social issues, work together to reach out to more people. The doctor from Telangana is active when it comes to periodic vaccination camps, awareness camps, distribution of books and clothes distribution regularly.

“I have actively participated in education development and activities related to women empowerment. I have been working with India’s famous NGOs for the last ten years,” says the founder of Banjara Mahila, an NGO that works for the welfare of underprivileged people of India, which is located in rural /thanda area, near Mirlayalguda of Nalgonda.

They had conducted a series of such camps at Nalgonda in July 2017. “We are keen to conduct a series of such camps during Dusshera as that is the time most people who have migrated to cities also visit their hometown. From sanitary hygiene to nutrition to family planning, we teach them all that one needs for a happy and healthy life,” says Dr Poornima.
