HYDERABAD: A partly decomposed, unidentified body was found outside the TB clinic of Osmania General Hospital on Friday afternoon, along with two other patients.

It was only after Express reporter brought the matter to the notice of the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) that the body was shifted to the mortuary and the two patients to the general ward.According to a tea vendor, the 55-year-old deceased,  who was found swarmed by red ants and maggots, had been lying unattended since Thursday evening, and also had a cannula attached to his right hand. “He was very much alive last night. He must have died only this morning,” he said

Md. Rafi, the RMO,  said that he was unaware of the incident and assured that the body would be shifted to the mortuary. “We came to know about the issue only after you informed us,” he said.
On the other hand, health inspector B Narendar blamed those who were on duty in the morning. “It is the duty of the morning shift inspectors to send personnel concerned on security checks and see for such cases on the premises, but they failed to do so,” he said.

However, the contract staff of the hospital alleged that it was the police who dumps patients at secluded places within the hospital premises and dispose the out-patient (OP) sheet. “They do this to ensure that there is no written proof of the patient’s whereabouts or the police station limits,” said Krishnaiah, an attender at the hospital. Gnanendar Reddy, Afzalgunj police inspector,  said, ‘There have been several instances of this kind and in my opinion it is the responsibility of the hospital to take care of the patients.’’
