HYDERABAD: Srinivas, a resident of Muthangi of Patancheru mandal in Sangareddy district, who had received inflated electricity bill of more than `1.27 lakh, will now have to pay just `572 and not `1.27 lakh.
The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd clarified in a release on Saturday that the excess billing was made due to the faulty meter.

Responding to a news item published in these columns, with the headline, “Inflated Electricity Bill `1.27 lakh shocks Patancheru resident”, on Saturday, TSSPDCL chairman and managing director G Raghuma Reddy ordered the superintending engineer concerned to submit a detailed report regarding the issue.
On the findings of abnormal billing, the power officials inspected the house of Srinivas on Saturday and found that the existing meter was a defective one.  “Based on the consumption and connected load of the service, a revised bill for an amount of  `572 has been issued.

A new meter is being arranged,” the TSSPDCL stated. The existing faulty meter was sent to the Metre reading testing lab for testing in presence of the consumer. The MRT test reported dated on August 19 stated that the meter was defective and had percentage error of 670. “The consumer has to pay `572 and not `1.27 lakh towards electricity bill,” the TSSPDCL said.
