Hyderabad stands second in crimes of ‘cruelty by husbands’, reveals NCRB data

HYDERABAD: While on the whole there has been a decline in the crime rate in Telangana this year as per the latest National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) data, it appears that a majority of married couple in the state capital is going through a troubled marital life. Data shows that Hyderabad city stands second in reporting cases of crime against women on the head of ‘cruelty by husband or his relatives’ by registering 1,311 cases during 2016 while Delhi topped with 3,645 cases being reported. Jaipur came third with 1,008 cases.
The NCRB director Dr Ish Kumar on Thursday announced the data of crime in the country during 2016. According to the data released by NCRB, a majority of cases of crime against women in 2016 reported under cruelty by husband or his relatives is 29.2 per cent followed by assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty, which is 25 per cent while cases of kidnapping and abduction of women is 22.2 per cent. Cases of rape stood at 11.8 per cent. Meanwhile, the two Telugu states stood second and third respectively in reporting cheating cases.
While Maharashtra topped with reporting 800 cheating cases in 2016, Telangana stood second with 224 cases and 209 cases of cheating were registered in Andhra Pradesh. The Hyderabad city ranked 18 among the metro cities of the country in crime ranking. In 2016, a total 18,295 cases were reported under IPCs and SLL. Number of crimes reported in the same period in 2015 was 18,957 cases.
‘More number of women pushed into flesh trade’
The cases of flesh trade in Telangana seems to have not shown much difference in 2016 when compared to cases booked in 2015. TS stands fourth in the number of cases booked under Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act in India, according to National Crime Records Bureau.
Around 241 cases have been registered in the state and 307 victims were rescued in 2016. Police across State arrested 355 persons, against 292 cases booked in 2015 and 341 women rescued in 2015. Hyderabad also stands fourth in the country with more number of women pushed into flesh trade. A total of 64 cases were registered in 2016 in which, 76 women have been rescued against registering 65 cases. In 2016, as many as 15,374 cases of crime against women have been registered across TS against 15,425 cases booked a year before.
Hyderabad 5th among cities in cyber crime cases
NCRB With 291 cases of cyber crime registered in 2016, Hyderabad becomes fifth metropolitan city to witness highest number of cases related to cyber crime. Of 291 cases, 217 were incidents where revenge was the motive. Motive of 74 cases of cyber crime booked were for illegal gain, according to the NCRB data. The State stood at seventh position with 593 cases.
