HYDERABAD: Corporators cutting across party lines, including the ruling TRS, expressed unhappiness over the prevailing poor sanitation conditions in the city. Garbage not being cleared from localities for days together, leading to diseases like dengue, malaria and viral fevers was one of the major issues raised by the corporators with Mayor Bonthu Rammohan.
The corporators are understood to have said that they were fearing a backlash from people and demanded adequate manpower and infrastructure like swachh auto tippers and tri-cycles to clear waste. The issue was raised by G Sridevi who wanted to know about the distribution of Swachh autos to each ward.
Co-option member Ayesha Rubina wanted GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy to suspend the Swacch Ward Rankings till proper infrastructure is put in place at each ward.
Commissioner admitted that there are certain issues that the GHMC is trying to rectify and said all steps were being taken to dispose waste.Meanwhile, to strengthen the sanitation system, another 500 Swacch Auto Tippers are going to be provided by Tata company in about 45 days time. The procuring of auto tippers got delayed as Mahindra company did not agree to provide the auto tippers at old rates and quoted around Rs 4.60 lakh for each vehicle. The GHMC re-tendered the bids and Tata has come forward to deliver the vehicles each costing Rs 4.05 lakh.
Corporation has chalked out road development projects to ensure hassle-free traffic movement in Old City. Former Mayor Majid Hussain and other corporators from MIM wanted to know the proposals planned under the Strategic Road Development Project in South zone.
