HYDERABAD: Two burqa clad women are found to have replaced gold ornaments worth around `6 lakh with imitation gold, and stolen the same, from a well known jewellery store in Somajiguda. The incident from Lalithaa jewellery came to light during audit of oranments recently. Further verification of CCTV footage exposed two burqa clad women involved in the act. Police suspect that the women took photographs of the ornaments and later replaced the same with imitation ornaments. The store had recently offered its customers to compare the oranments with quality and price of similar ornaments at other stores by taking a photograph.
The miscreants are believed to have made use of this opportunity. The store management noticed the change in some ornaments and reported the same to Panjagutta police after verifying the footage. Based on the complaint, police have registered a theft case against two unknown women. Panjagutta D e t e c t ive Inspector(DI) Lakshminarayana Reddy said that the management of Lalithaa Jewellery lodged a complaint stating that they found a fake gold ornament at their store during the audit. CCTV footage from recent days could help identify the suspects.
“It was found that two burqa clad women entered into store posing as customers and interacted with sales man asking details of a gold ornament. Diverting attention of sales man, unknown women committed theft by replacing gold ornaments with imitation ornaments,’’ police said. Police collected footage of CCTV and are verifying details to identify the women suspects. “There is no clue about the incident as the women had covered their faces with burqa,’’ Detective Inspector said.
