HYDERABAD: A day after the University of Hyderabad issued a statement to the students union alleging that instead of complying with the Executive Council, which is the highest authority in the University, they had used intemperate language during their interaction with the warden’s office, and announcing its intent to hold protests at non-designated places without taking proper permissions, the union said that they were within the rights to protest on the campus.

“We know the importance of EC and that is why we repeatedly requested that students representatives should be allowed to depose before it. While the chief warden was given this opportunity, we were not,” rued Arif Ahmmed, general secretary of the students union.

Reacting to the objection of holding protests at non-designated places, Arif said that this circular was issued long ago and had been out-rightly rejected. “We don’t even acknowledge it. Our stand is clear and we are within our rights to protest wherever and whenever we want.”The students also said that there is a possibility that the administration will issue proctorial notices to the union members, something they did with the last union as well.“Our demand continues to be immediate and total revocation of the suspension order. Until this happens we will protest,” said Arif.
