HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad City Slum People’s Federation (HCSPF) has demanded the state government  to construct 2BHK houses for all in slums in the city and provide cheap rental houses to meet the needs of migrant workers and their families.
These were some of the demands adopted at the federation’s general body meeting held in the city on Sunday. The meeting was presided over by Varghese Theckanath, convener, Campaign for Housing and Tenurial Rights.

“The 2017-18 Union Budget promised to build one crore houses for the weaker sections by 2019. If one crore houses are to be built in the next two years, 13,700 houses will have to be built every day in the next two years,” the federation said in a press release.
In Hyderabad, 18.06 lakh people live in 4.21 lakh houses located in 1,086 slums. Over the years, 6,608 houses were built under VAMBAY and 46,487 under JNNURM. A large number of these houses have no takers because either they are too far away or are too small.
