Cops confirming accused’s age before producing him in front of Juvenile Justice Board.

HYDERABAD: A day after a frenzied horse stomped to death a motorist and grievously injured the pillion, the minor who was riding the horse was booked by Mailardevpally police on Monday. Police are verifying the minor’s age before producing him before the Juvenile Justice Board.

The deceased was identified as Hameed Shah Khan, a small time businessman from Old City. His friend Khazam Khan suffered critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at Gandhi hospital. The incident took place at Vattepally in Mailardevpally police station limits on Sunday, when the horse ridden by a 17-year-old boy kicked Hameed on his chest.

At around 6:30 pm on Sunday, Hameed and his friend Khazam were travelling on a motorcycle. The minor suddenly came onto the road riding a horse from a by-lane. The horse panicked on seeing the bike in front of it and crashed into the motorcycle.

The boy who was not a trained horse-rider, managed to dismount and escaped into the by-lanes.

“Hameed and Khazam fell on the road and the horse jumped and stomped its forelegs on Hameed’s chest. The duo suffered injuries and were rushed to separate hospitals for treatment. Hameed was declared brought dead when he was taken to Osmania General Hospital,” Mailardevpally inspector P Jagadeshwar said.

Calling it as a very rare case, the inspector said, “We are looking into the matter whether the minor could ride the horse and whether he was trained to ride. The boy has already been taken into custody. The horse was bought by him recently for domestication.”

‘No fear or favour

Answering a query, the inspector denied allegations of sidelining the minor boy due to his father’s political influence.

“They are all rumours. We have booked a case against the boy under section 304 (A)(Causing death by negligence) and 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC. As this is a case of first of its kind, we are consulting senior officers,” the inspector said.

He added that eye-witnesses accounts were being recorded.
