HYDERABAD: Unlike every year, the tedious task of parking your vehicle at the All India Industrial Exhibition, popularly called Numaish, might not be an exhausting task this time around. Visitors need not sweat while looking for a free space or pay an unaccounted price to middlemen with no security for a parking space, according to members of the Exhibition Society.

At the inaugural that is scheduled to take place at 4 pm on Sunday, the map of parking spaces around Numaish will be integrated into the Get My Parking app and the same will be launched. This is being done in collaboration with the Hyderabad Traffic Police. AV Ranganath, deputy commissioner of police (traffic) explained that this is an attempt to improve the system of free parking (introduced only last year) for the 25 lakh vehicles expected this year.

“The software support is being offered by Get My Parking and the cost is being borne by the Exhibition Society,” informed the DCP. The app is currently being populated with the geography around Numaish and will be streamlined in a couple of days. “Traffic of vehicles will increase after the first one week or so. By that time, it should be in place. We also want to prove that free parking can also be done in an orderly fashion,” he added. This application has been tried and tested during the Kumbh Mela and also pushkarams and has proven to be effective.

How it works? Vinay Kumar, convenor of the parking sub-committee, explained that the app will enable customers to check available slots in the parking areas at the comfort of their home. There will be indicators on the app that will display the status that is most definitely subjected to change. “There will be three lights indicating the availability -- red indicates that it is full, orange indicates that it is filling up fast and green indicates that a slot is available.

GPS, which is part of all smart phones will take the customer to the available slot,” elaborated Vinay Kumar adding that determining the feasibility of the app, which caters to both two wheelers and four wheelers will take a while. Besides, there will be 20 electronic machines set up at various locations that will indicate available parking slots. “We also have around 30 volunteers who will coordinate with the traffic police,” added Vinay. Indira Bhavan and Nampally Junior College will also be available for parking but for a price. “We have no control over these two places. The parking charge has been left to the will of the management,” Vinay informed.
