HYDERABAD: Telangana State government allotted 1,000 square yards land in the rich Shaikpet area in Hyderabad to Rio Olympic silver medalist in women's badminton singles, PV Sindhu.

When Sindhu won the silver medal in 2016 Rio Olympics, the State government rewarded her with Rs 5 crore cash. The State government also offered a government job to the shuttler. However, she did not accept it. The State cabinet announced sops to Sindhu in August last year itself.

Later, the Revenue officials identified the land in two adjacent plots bearing Nos 7 and 8, measuring 753 sq yards and 645 sq yards in Bharani Layout in Survey number 403 of Shaikpet village and mandal. The identified land will combined to carve out a 1,000 sq yards plot, which will be allotted to Sindhu, government orders issued on Monday said.

The State government also awarded Rs 1 crore cash to PV Sindhu's coach Pullela Gopichand.

The neighbouring AP government had given a cash award of Rs 3 crore to PV Sindhu. The 21-year-old from Hyderabad was defeated by Spain’s Carolina Marin in the Olympics and  had to be satisfied with a Silver medal in August, 2016.
