Widen Hakimpet road, plead ex-servicemen

He also demanded that the government give the armed forces 50 to 70 per cent higher pay and pension than government civilian employees.​

HYDERABAD: Members of the Housing Society of Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association on Sunday demanded that the government consider widening of the roads in Secunderabad, which are frequented by VVIPs, to prevent road accidents.

They were referring to the narrow main road connecting Secunderabad and Hakimpet. Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, MP Narendra, association president and former IAF officer, said that a number of stretches of city roads were very congested and road accidents, some of them even fatal, were a frequent occurrence there.

“The government must consider widening the road from Parade Ground to the Hakimpet airport with connectivity to Rashtrapati Nilayam Road in Bollaram, Alwal and Hakimpet bus depot. A number of fatal accidents took place on these stretches and a lot of youngsters lost their lives in the accidents,” Narendra said.

He also demanded a 35 percent higher pension for  ex-servicemen vis-a-vis all government civilian employees as a very special case  to compensate the overall OROP anomalies and also to keep high the morale of the armed forces, veterans and war widows.
