HYDERABAD: While welcoming the handloom challenge thrown by state IT Minister K Tarakarama Rao, three youngsters now want him to take up another challenge. Three techies from JNTU, Hyderabad – Surender Thallapelly, Shashidhar Vuppala and Srinivas Saladhi – visited Gandhi Hospital for treatment as common citizens to examine the situation, environment and the quality of treatment. Then, they took up an initiative to save government hospitals.

Says Shashidhar, “Just as politicians and ministers have vowed to wear handlooms to protect it, they should start getting treated in government hospitals for ailments. Our MPs, MLAs and IAS officers should start using it. This will reinstate confidence about the quality of treatment in these hospitals in the common man as well.”

Talking about #SaarkariDaawakanaSaval or #GovtHospitalChallenge, Surender says, “We aim to bring back focus on our hospitals as that can alone fix the sorry state of affairs in our healthcare system. We recently read that J Jayalalitha, late chief minister of Tamil Nadu, was treated in a corporate hospital for 81 days and the cost was `80 crore. If the same money is invested in government hospitals, I am sure we can see better healthcare in the country.”

Adds Srinivas Saladi, “Healthcare is expensive and the common man can afford the corporate treatment. Before the common man gets frustrated, I hope dynamic ministers like KTR take this up. Recently actor Suman Talwar spread the good word and pressed the need to focus on primary health centres in villages.” The trio are now on a mission to convince more people to reach out to the government for good health to save the healthcare system.
