‘Corrupt’ civic engineer in Nizamabad kills self

HYDERABAD: A municipal engineer Ch Venkateswarlu (58) of Nizamabad committed suicide by jumping off from the fifth floor of his apartment, after he was caught by the ACB sleuths, while accepting a bribe of  Rs 20,000 from a contractor.

According to police, Venkateswarlu, an engineer with the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation, was caught by the ACB officials at his residence on Saturday, when he had demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 20,000 for doing an official favour.

Later, the ACB team led by DSP Nagender Reddy took the engineer to the municipal office for questioning.

DSP Nagender Reddy said, after interrogation at the municipal office, Venkateswarlu had told the ACB sleuths that he wanted to go to his house to get clothes for changing.

“After reaching his house, he jumped from the fifth floor of his apartment,” the DSP said. He succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to hospital.

Venkateswarlu was survived by wife, a daughter and a son.
