Child rights body issues notices to cops

The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Monday issued notices to DCPs of central zone of Hyderbad police commissionerate and Malkajgiri of Rachakonda

HYDERABAD: The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Monday issued notices to DCPs of central zone of Hyderbad police commissionerate and Malkajgiri of Rachakonda police limits asking them to submit a report explaining why no FIR was registered against two city-based schools who were charged with cheating parents.

Hyderabad-based anti-corruption activist Vijay Gopal had filed a complaint of cheating against Delhi Public School, Nacharam and The Slate school Abids on Dec 27 and 29.

Achyuta Rao, member of the Commission said, “The police are answerable for not registering complaints against the schools which have been charged of cognisable offences by Gopal.”

A Supreme Court order in 2013 directed the police across the country to ensure that “when a cognisable offense if reported, without any delay an FIR must be lodged and investigation needs to be initiated into the matter without bickering about the jurisdiction issue.’’

The complainant, Gopal, alleged, “I had lodged a complaint with the two police stations stating the schools take exorbitant capitation fee and accept donation of about `50,000, which is in violation to the limit of `5,000 set by government through GO 91.’’

When Malkajgiri assistant commissioner of police Sandeep was contacted, he said it is non-cognisable offence so they have asked the complainant to approach the state education department.
