HYDERABAD: In the last two weeks, there has been an increase in the number of patients visiting hospitals with ear pain, heaviness in ears, outer ear infections, common cold, sinus headaches, bad throat infections and severe tonsil cases as wrost that patients can’t swallow their own saliva.

To avoid monsoon related ENT issues, people should not eat and drink outside specially roadside food and water. Instead people must take only boiled and filtered water, clean fruits and vegetables very carefully before consumption and eat only fresh and hot home cooked food. In case if someone get drenched in the, they must take a hot water bath after getting home to get rid of any virus and bacteria that they may carry from dirty rain water. 

l Consume more fruits and vegetables that are rich in Vitamin C like - lemon, oranges, strawberry, broccoli. Vitamin C kills viruses.  l One must avoid smoking as it aggravates ENT related issues during monsoons. 

l The IT professionals are most affected by ENT related issues as they work in closed environment for long hours under central air conditioning systems. Centralised ac systems spread ENT related bacteria and viruses faster. 

l In case of cold, have more of hot food and soup
l Try basic medication and if the condition persists after 2-3 days without any improvement, then visit an ENT specialist. 

l Do not use antibiotics on your own or with chemists consultation. Only take antibiotics as prescribed by your ENT specialist.
