HYDERABAD: Tollywood’s link to the recent drug bust has been emerging from information reportedly gathered from one Calvin Mascarenhas. The foreign national, arrested by sleuths of Prohibition and Excise department, is allegedly the kingpin of the drug racket. Little did the team which conducted a decoy operation and arrested Mascarenhas know about his sensational clientele.

Express accessed a video which was shot when Task Force team of Telangana Prohibition and Excise department raided Calvin’s residence. A few minutes into the raid, he strongly denied any role in supplying drugs and asserted it was for personal use. “I keep it for my personal use. You can get it very cheap in Goa,” Mascarenhas told an official. But he fell short of words when the official said he could bring one of his customers to prove his point.

Sources who were part of the decoy operation said Mascarenhas had sold drugs to a person around half-an-hour before the operation. But the kingpin did not know that the client had been planted by Excise department’s Task force team. “We took a client into confidence and he placed an order for drugs. But Mascarenhas did not come in person to deliver the drugs. A courier was appointed who was supposed to collect it. Being cautious, he asked the courier to come to a spot few lanes away from his home. After half-an-hour, we landed at his door,” sources said.

It was in an hour-long interrogation on July 2 that the Excise department got to know that he sold drugs to film personalities. While checking his bedroom, the team initially found only three to four LSD blots. When they dug a little deeper, they found a full sheet of LSD paper, Hashish etc.

All due care was taken in selecting the client who purchased the drug. “The client bought drugs from him two to three times,” sources said. Mascarenhas told the sleuths that he had been selling drugs for around three years. In fact, The 29-year-old who is a musician was earlier caught by Hyderabad Police Task Force for possessing Ganja. In his confession statement, he listed out names of Tollywood personalities to whom he sold drugs.
