Move over chatbots, enter UDo

Studies point out the fact that human interaction wins any day over emotionless automated responses. UDo is an app that taps into this precise need

HYDERABAD: Your Wi-Fi router is working fine but the Internet connection is slow. You call the service provider for help, and all you get is an automated response that tells the same steps - switch off the router, wait for 30 seconds, switch it on and try again, clear your browser’s cache and try again, restart your computer and try again, and so on. The thing is - you have already tried all those options. Doesn’t it feel good if an expert network technician helps you fix the issue over a call in a jiffy?

Another scenario. You are an experienced banker. Owing to the continuous downpour over the past few days, you are stuck in a traffic jam on a waterlogged road. Instead of fretting about the rains or GHMC, how about using the time to help a youngster in giving tips on cracking the Probationary Officer exam?

Scenario three. You are a home-maker and specialise in preparing sweets such as Carrot Halwa, Gulab Jamun, etc. When a newly-married guy wants to show off his culinary skills to his wife, wouldn’t it be good if you can help him over a call in preparing the perfect Double ka Meetha, and make some quick bucks on the side?

And there are more. At what location can a farmer get a fair price for his produce? How can a farmer find ways to repay his debt instead of taking his life? What are the do’s and don’ts of organic farming? From getting the service of a psychiatrist anonymously when feeling depressed to finding the right university abroad that fits your budget and coursework, the areas of sharing specialised knowledge are limitless.

There is a common thread that joins these narratives. UDo, an ‘expert aggregator’ that provides services of experts on-demand. Founded by 36-year-old Teja Gudluru in May, this app provides business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) services.

“UDo is the next voice-version of Google,” proclaims Teja, adding that apart from individuals, organisations can utilise the services of UDo as a virtual call centre, thus helping in doing away with infrastructure, logistics and other expenses.

With a capital of over Rs 30 lakh sourced by Teja and his friends, the app has over 9,000 downloads till date, with 300 experts across various fields registered thus far. The app is currently available for Android users and would be on App Store by this September. It would also be reaching out to users in the US, Malaysia, and Germany in a couple of months.“Another goal that is dear to my heart is of creating a crowdfunding platform for farmers, similar to the one founded by actor Akshay Kumar for Jawans who lost their lives,” says Teja, before signing off.
