‘No Army nod to mark Kargil day’

Army officials said that If Kargil Day is to be observed, it should be by the Army.

HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association members have been allegedly denied permission to commemorate Kargil Day and pay homage to the martyrs at Parade Grounds here by the Army administration.

The Kargil Day is to be observed on July 26.

Association founder-president A Rangaiah Goud said here on Wednesday that they had applied to the Commander of AP, Telangana Sub Area, seeking permission for commemorating Kargil Day at the Kargil Stupa on Parade Grounds in Secunderabad. However, Army officers denied permission for the event.
“Every year, we write to Army officers seeking permission and they allow us to observe Kargil Day. As we did not receive any reply from them now, we have called on the Army officer who denied permission on various grounds,” Goud said. The ex-serviceman said they were, however, determined to observe the Day at Parade Grounds.

Telangana and Andhra Sub Area administration, when contacted, maintained that over two dozen organisations had sought permission for commemoration of Kargil Day at Parade grounds and that permissions were not outrightly denied. “We have not taken a decision yet. Many organisations are seeking permission. If Kargil Day is to be observed, it should be by the Army,” said an official.
