HYDERABAD: Ever since the Excise department has found that the drug racket has been expanding its base into educational institutions in the city, parents of the school and college-going students have been questioning the gang’s modus operandi in targeting the students.
However, during a recent investigation, the Excise department sleuths have found that some students are now procuring drugs using darknet. On Saturday, two students who have recently passed high school used darknet to buy MDMA. They were caught with Magic Mushrooms. When their emails were checked, officials found they had used darknet and bitcoins.
“We have been stating that the sale of drugs is not completely organised or individualised. There are no drug lords in Hyderabad. There are several small modules, individuals who procure drugs,” sources said.
Sources added that initially, students approached peddlers to buy their stash. “Students spent `1,500-`2,000 or more to buy drugs. However, after getting to know that they can buy it for lesser prices on the darknet, they started using this channel.Most of the students who adopted this route have passed out from International schools.
